Bay of Islands Hole In Rock - 1 night, 2 Day Tour Extension

Day 1 Auckland / Bay of Islands:

Morning departure from your Auckland Hotel, travelling across Auckland’s Harbour Bridge and past Orewa and the Hibiscus Coast. Travel past the region where early Bohemian settlers worked the scrub lands into farms and the extremely lucrative Kauri timber trade, which ultimately became a Kauri Gum trade around the world. Further North at Waipu, the Scottish settled and in the Bay of Islands in the early 1800’s, the missionaries and settlers arrived. In 1842 the Treaty of Waitangi was signed and a continuing peace was established between the Maori and the Pakeha (the European).

Morning tea at Kaiwaka (own cost).

Arrive in Paihia and visit the Waitangi Treaty Grounds for a guided tour. It was here on February 6th,1840 that the Treaty of Waitangi was first signed between Maori and the British Crown and the Treaty House is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most visited historic homes. Depart here and transfer the short distance to the Paihia Wharf to check in for your Dolphin Cruise to the Cape Brett Hole in the Rock. Cruise through clear waters and keep a look out for dolphins, orca whales, penguins, seals and bird life. Cruise to Cape Brett lighthouse and past many islands in the bay. Full commentary and a delicious picnic lunch is included.

Return to Paihia and enjoy a leisurely, short stroll to your hotel on the waterfront. Your Coach Captain will have delivered your bags earlier. Dinner tonight is at own cost and arrangement and some terrific restaurants are close by.

DAY 2 Bay of Islands / Auckland:

Relax this morning at Paihia, enjoy the wonderful hotel facilities, or maybe some shopping and local sightseeing. We recommend a ferry trip to historic Russell ($10.00 return own cost), or you may wish to play a round of golf. Talk to your hotel about the local sights and attractions available to you. In the afternoon (4.30pm) your Great Sights Coach will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you back to your hotel in Auckland.

Enjoy this evening in Auckland, maybe visit the Viaduct Harbour area and experience the wonderful restaurants and nightlife.  This evening is Day 1 of any tours departing from Auckland.
