Travel North along the Kapiti coastline and across the Manawatu and Rangatikei Plains toward Tongariro National Park. This is 'Middle Earth' as featured in Lord of The Rings! Visit the National Army Museum, the most comprehensive Army Museum in New Zealand and be moved by the amazing stories of courage, the memorabilia and history. Arrive at Whakapapa where you can catch a chairlift to the Knoll Cafe (own cost). In winter, this area forms the Ruapehu Ski Fields, New Zealand's largest. There are many mountain walking tracks to follow and a fixed wing aircraft flight can be arranged (own cost/must be pre-booked).
